Open Keynote in PowerPoint on Windows PC

There are times when you need to open Keynote in PowerPoint on Windows PC. This may happen when you don’t have access to your Mac and are working on another machine that is not supporting .key files. You may have sketched something on your iPad or someone may have emailed a Keynote file to you while you are working on a PC. Reasons are endless.

While you can’t directly open such files on a PC in PowerPoint, there is an easy workaround that you can take.

Solution

I assume that you don’t have an opportunity to export a .pptx file from your Keynote presentation and are left with having a .key file sitting in your email or on your PC.

There is no Windows version of Keynote. But there is iCloud. And the good thing about iCloud is that you may access it from your Windows PC. Hence, let’s look at 5 easy steps to open Keynote in PowerPoint on Windows PC.

Step 1. Visit iCloud

Visit iCloud. If you are already registered, log in. If you are not registered, do so. It is as easy as subscribing to our Roar News. By the way, have you subscribed to them yet? You can, in the top right corner of the sidebar.

Once you are in, you will see a dashboard with all the tools that you can use. Click on Keynote.

Step 2. Open Keynote in iCloud

If that’s the first time you are getting on iCloud, go through two prompts to start using Keynote. Once you are in, click on “Upload” and upload your .key file.

Step 3. Upload .key file

It will take a moment to upload.

Once done, you will see it in your dashboard. You may click on it to open to review but if you are 100% positive about it and just want that .ppt file, then click on three dots, then “Download a copy…” and…

…choose “PowerPoint”.

Step 4. Download a Powerpoint.

Again, it will take some time to prepare a file and convert it into a PowerPoint.

Once it finishes, it will download the .pptx version of it onto your computer. That’s it – you will see it in your Donwloads.

Step 5. Open your PowerPoint & enjoy.

There is Step 6 to this but it is not mandatory. Step 6.
